Essentially, all levels should ideally have four unlockable medals (bronze, silver, gold, author)
Of course, the bronze medal should be really easy to obtain while the author medal should pretty much be my personal best time
To unlock a level's medal, you would need to beat the time associated with the medal on that very level
Once a medal is unlocked, it should be displayed next to its level in the level selection menu
Author medals should probably look blue
The very existence of a level's medals and of the requirements to unlock them should be hidden, only visible in the source code
(edit: to clarify, I do mean that the existence of a medal should be hidden until obtained, cuz it'd been pretty pointless if the whole system was hidden lol)
I think such a system with the bronze, silver, and gold medals would tell players that they could do better and would encourage them to replay the levels they have already beaten
Meanwhile, the author medal would be a neat way to reward players that are passionate enough
Mostly taking inspiration from how Trackmania does (or did?) things, because currently, there are no plans to add collectibles, which would be another way to encourage replayability
I managed to implement it in basically the exact same way I had imagined it, the overlapping medals is a bit of a sudden stroke of genius though
Therefore, it is very much safe to close
