Put the message network traffic on the standard HTTP(S) port. I'm on a public network right now that apparently blocks XMPP and SSH for some reason

They probably block anything that isn't HTTP(S), really

Seriously, end user devices shall only use outbound TCP, maybe UDP, preferably over HTTP(S)

Just... make it painfully standard stuff so all those stupid routers and NATs know what to do
